The Interview Process

Investigators from DCFS and/or law enforcement agencies contact Shining Star when an alleged abuse case is reported. Shining Star staff members then coordinate a time for the child to be interviewed by the interagency multidisciplinary team.

The team will meet prior to the interview to exchange information regarding the case. Shining Star’s Forensic Interviewer will then bring the child back to the interview room to begin the interview process, while other team members observe through a closed circuit television. During the interview, ourFamily Advocate meets with the parent(s)/guardian(s) in the waiting room area to provide them with information about the process and answer any questions they may have. After the interview, members of the team meet with the parent(s)/guardian(s) to help identify subsequent actions and activities. Shining Star staff also provide appropriate referrals to victims and their families regarding counseling, financial assistance, medical assistance, and other community resources.
